abstract = "The knowledge about the forms of occupation and use past and
current land are essential information to the study of intense
erosion, desertification, flooding, silting of water courses,
among others, becoming very important in that the effects of their
misuse, causing deterioration in the environment, or even
extinction of a given ecosystem (ROSA, 2003). Given that the study
area of this research - Basin Ribeir{\~a}o Bom Jardim - Triangulo
Mineiro (MG) was covered in its entirety by Cerrado natural
vegetation, we have analyzed the evolution of land use given to
this area by mapping performed by Brito (2001) for the period
between 1964 and 1999 and in 2010 as part of this research. We
conducted the identification and mapping of various categories of
land use that reflect the current state of conversion of native
vegetation in agricultural systems. Considering the total area of
the basin, it is clear that the area occupied by agriculture
increased from 45.2% (1999) to 58.6% (2010). While the area
covered by natural vegetation (Cerrado) was reduced from 13.8%
(1999) to 5.4% (2010). The areas occupied by reforestation were
maintained (3.5%). The study of the evolution of land use showed
that almost all of the cerrado, which represented two thirds of
the basin, has been replaced mainly by agriculture. Therefore, one
should seek to encourage sustainable agricultural development,
with the adoption of management techniques that conserve the
soil.",
